In most cases, the date of transition from opportunistic
to active drive fishing using 'spotters' is unclear. At Arari
the change occurrecl during World War II (Board of
Education of Shizuoka Prefecture, 1986), but the Kawana
team, which was established in 1888, used dolphin spotting
boats even before the 1920s when motor vessels were first
introduced (Kasuya, 1985a; Board of Education of
Shizuoka Prefecture, 1987). Similarly the dates when the
last operations took place is generally unclear, but it is
known that lnatori carried out its last drive between 1945
and 1961 and Arari made its last signifìcant catch in 1961
(Kasuya, 1985a). When the license system was introduced
in 1982, only Kawana, Futo and Arari obtained licenses. In
1968, the last two driving teams (Kawana and Futo) began
joint operations which lasted until 1983 (Kasuya, 1985a).
Since 1984 only Futo has operated on the lzu coast (Kasuya
and Miyashita, 1989).

ほとんどの場合、機会的追込み漁から「スポッター（見張り/探査船）」を
使った積極的なイルカ漁への移行期がいつであるのかははっきりしない。
安良里ではこの転換が第二次世界大戦中に起った（Board of
Education of Shizuoka Prefecture, 1986）。しかし1888年に
作られた川奈のチームはモーターボートが初めて導入された
1920年代以前にイルカ探査船を利用している(Kasuya, 1985a;
Board of Education of Shizuoka Prefecture, 1987)。

同じようにいつが最後の操業だったのかということも定かではない。
稲取の最後の追込み漁が1945年と1961年の間だったということは
確かであり、安良里が最後に顕著な漁を行ったのは1961年である
（Kasuya, 1985a）。1982年に許可制が施行されたとき、ライセンスを
取ったのは川奈、富戸、安良里だけである。1968年に最後の追込み漁
２チーム（川奈と富戸）が合同操業を開始し、これは1983年まで
続いた。1984年以降、富戸のみが伊豆海岸で操業を行っている
（Kasuya 　 and Miyashita, 1989）。

In the past, the drive fishery on the Izu coast operated at
all times of the year and the target species included striped,
spotted, bottlenose, Risso's, Pacific white-sided, and
northern right whale dolphins and short-finned pilot
whales. Summer operations began to decrease in the 1920s
(Board of Education of Shizuoka Prefecture, 1987).
Northern right whale dolphins were driven only once in
Kawana and the driving of Pacific white-sided dolphins was
difficult because they often escaped during driving or
escaped under the net after driving (Bureau of Fisheries,
1911: Board of Education of Shizuoka Prefecture, 1986;
1987).

かつて伊豆海岸で行われていた追込み漁は年間の総ての時期に
わたっており、捕獲されたイルカ種はスジイルカ、マダライルカ、
ハンドウイルカ、ハナゴンドウ、太平洋カマイルカ、セミイルカ
等である。
夏の漁は1920年代に低下し始めた（Board of Education of Shizuoka
Prefecture, 1987）。セミイルカが追い込まれたのは川奈で一度だけ
であり、太平洋カマイルカは追い込み中あるいは追い込み後に
網の下をくぐって逃げるので困難である(Bureau of Fisheries,
1911: Board of Education of Shizuoka Prefecture, 1986;
1987)。
