Jordanian ambassador: Abbas must 'wage a war' on Hamas
"It's very important to give the new prime minister the support that he requires in order to fight terrorism.
He needs to wage a war within against Hamas and against Jihad al-Islami (Islamic Jihad),"
said Jordanian ambassador Karim Kawar.

Kawar, speaking at the Israel Policy Forum, said Abbas could succeed against the militants only if Israel enhances his credibility by making gestures to the Palestinians.

Kawar said the Israeli government should strengthen Abu Mazen's position in the Palestinian community by lifting curfew in Palestinian areas and reducing the number of roadblocks.

"We also worry that Abu Mazen today does not have popular support among the Palestinians and frankly for many of the Palestinians they see no difference in their day-to-day lives from when Abu Ammar (Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat) was leading them and today under the leadership of Abu Mazen," he said.

支持率がそんなに高くないアッバスの権力を守るためには、外出禁止令や検問を緩めることで
パレスチナ人民に「ほら、アラファト時代より生活がマシになったでしょ？ 　 これはアッバスのおかげよ」と
説き続けることが重要としている。
