3. ESTIMATION OF NATURAL MORTALITY RATE
The estimation of this parameter was the main objective of
JARPA when the programme was initiated. The natural
mortality rate estimates from JARPA data alone (Tanaka et
al., 2006) (SC/D06/J13), were, at around 0.04, within the
plausible range, but the confidence limits (from below zero
to above 0.10) spanned such a wide range that the
parameter is still effectively unknown.
The ADAPT-VPA provided estimates of natural mortality
rates with a CV of about 0.15 but these depend on the use
of commercial catch-at-age data, about which, as discussed
in SC/59/Rep1, there are some problems (and see Item 10.2.3).

３．自然死亡率の推定
この特性値の推定がプログラム開始時のJARPAの主要
目的だった。JARPAデータのみから得られる自然死亡
率は0.04であり、これ自体は信じられる範囲内に収
まっている。しかしその信頼限界（下限０、上限0.10）
は非常に広く、事実上この特性値は未知である．．．．．

つまり科学委員会は

『「自然死亡率」はよくわかんねえや』って判断したってこと。

これを別の日本語で言うのなら科学委員会が

『「自然死亡率」は解明されたとは言えない』って判断したってこと。
