The Samarra’correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the
explosions were coming from heavy bombing by US strategic B-52 bombers
that were blasting the houses of residents in eastern Samarra’.
No further details on the bombing or the nature or extent of casualties
were immediately available.

Mafkarat al-Islam sole independent news agency reporting from US area
of operations.

In a dispatch posted at 5:45pm Mecca time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that in the course of their coverage of the massive
American offensive in the Samarra’area, local residents of the city of
ad-Dulu‘iyah and the villages of al-Bu Khaddu, al-Jallab, al-Milh,
Shaykh Muhammad, and the ath-Tharthar area told the Mafkarat al-Islam
correspondent and two local journalists who volunteered to join him in
covering the events in the area that the coverage being provided by the
rest of the media simply echoe the official line of the US military.

Villagers complained that the reporters of the American al-Hurrah TV
station, the al-‘Arabiyah satellite network, and the correspondents of
the Washington Post and New York Times were all reporting via the US
military and were only transmitting what the US forces were announcing.
The residents complained that there were no journalists from any
independent agency other than those working for Mafkarat al-Islam.

US troops arrest more than 400 local people ranging in age from 15 to 70.

In a dispatch posted at 4:30pm Mecca time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat
al-Islam reported that as of that hour more than 400 local residents
between the ages of 15 and 70 had been arrested in the course of the
American offensive in the Samarra’ area.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam reported that the Americans are
arresting anyone they see,in particular people with beards or who appear
religious. US forces officially announced that only 45 people had been
arrested, but the real number of prisoners ? 400 ? is much higher and in
cludes the well-known religious scholar Shaykh Abu Isma‘il, aged 70
years.

In a dispatch posted at 3:35pm Mecca time Friday afternoon, Mafkarat al-
Islam reported that a short while earlier US forces bombed 13 houses in
the villages of al-Jallab and al-Milh.

The correspondent for Mafkarat al-Islam in the heart of Samarra’
reported that in four of the houses that the Americans bombed the
families living there were completely wiped out.Their remains were still
buried in the rubble of their homes at the time of reporting.

The correspondent reported that the Americans had destroyed bridges,
demolished buildings, and set farm fields on fire in the area around
Samarra’,the city of ad-Dulu‘iyah and the villages of al-Millh, Jallab
, Shaykh Muhammad, Wadi Hamrayn, and al-Bu Khaddu ? all located north,
east and south of Samarra’.

Jallab, some 15km east of Samarra’.
