WASHINGTON -- The Pentagon's top generals said the U.S. is spending more than $5.8 billion a month in Iraq, UPI reports. The figure is nearly a 50 percent increase above monthly benchmark used previously by the Pentagon to estimate the war's cost. The service chiefs told the House Armed Services Committee that the Army is spending $4.7 billion a month; the Air Force, $800 million, to transport soldiers and from combat missions; and the Marine Corps, $300 million.（ワシントン 　 − 　 ＵＰＩの報告によれば、ペンタゴンの複数のtop generalが、イラクで１月に５８億ドル強のカネを使っている。この数値は、戦費としてペンタゴンが用いた月標準コストのほぼ５０％増。各軍の参謀長は、陸軍が月に４７億ドル、空軍が兵士の輸送と戦闘任務で８億ドル、海軍が３億ドルとHouse Armed Services Committeeで語った。）

月に５８億ドルというと、日本円で月に約６千億ですか。年で７兆。いやはや、金持ちは違います。そのうち、詳しい説明が出てくるでしょう。確か、ラムズフェルドによれば、このカネ、つまり、イラク戦費と復興費用は、イラクの石油代金と国際社会からの復興資金で賄えることになっていたんですね。
