The operation was harshly criticised by the United Nations who issued a statement saying secretary general Kofi Annan "deplores the killing of Palestinian civilians during the Israeli incursion into Rafah."
国連のアナン事務総長の声明文を伝え、「ラファのイスラエル軍侵攻におけるパレスチナ市民の殺害を遺憾に思う」と、作戦を厳しく非難した。
A local source for the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, speaking on condition of anonymity, also told AFP that "at least 100 houses have been destroyed".
人権パレスチナセンターの現地筋が匿名を条件に、「少なくとも 100 軒の家が壊された」と話した。
"Unfortunately they placed their terrorist activity in places where there are civilians," he said. "We were forced to return fire."
「不幸にも過激派らはテロ活動を市民のいる場所に置いた」とイスラエル筋は言った。 「我々は打ち返すことを強いられた。」
"During intensive fighting, they fired literally dozens of anti-tank missiles," said the source. "All of this weaponry had to hit something."

The armed wing of the radical Palestinian movement Hamas said that it fired a makeshift rocket from Gaza, which Israel said landed harmlessly on a desert road outside the industrial town of Sderot, in revenge for the Rafah raid.
