1714年の江原道御史趙錫命の上記報告にある「接于倭境」を、Gerry Bevers氏は自己のブログで“that (an island) links to (or is on) the border of Japan”と英訳し、この島を日本領としました。これは、直ちにdokdo-takeshima.com氏によって、「接」はこの場合“being near, bordering or adjacent to”と訳すべきで、この島は日本領ではない、と反論され、Bevers氏は沈黙してしまいました。

“the 1714 passage”について、「欝陵之東島嶼相望接于倭境」を“Visible to the east of Ulleung is an island that links to (or is on) the border of Japan.”と訳したのは、一部は正しく、一部は間違っていると思います。
I think 「欝陵之東島嶼相望」“visible to the east of Ulleung is an island” is correct, but “that links to (or is on) the border of Japan” is incorrect. 「接于倭境」 does not mean “links to (or is on) the border of Japan”. The character 「接」 means to “connect”, “join”, or “touch”. But I think 「接于倭境」 should be translated as “adjacent to the border of Japan”, as dokdo-takeshima.com says.
林羅山『本朝地理志略』（1643）の「陸奥國」条に、「蝦夷島」は「與匈奴相接」と書かれています。この記述をGerry Beversさんのように解釈すれば、「蝦夷島」に「匈奴」があるということになりますが、事実は違います。「蝦夷島」の先が「匈奴」です。
If 「蝦夷島與匈奴相接」 described in “Mutsu Province” of “Brief Summary of Japanese Geography” by HAYASHI Razan is translated as “Ezo Island（蝦夷島） links to (or is on) Kyoudo（匈奴）”, it means “Kyoudo” extends up to “Ezo Island”. That is not the case. “Kyoudo” is beyond “Ezo Island”.
「欝陵之東島嶼相望」についてはGerry Beversさんの解釈が正しいと思います。「望」は「遠くをみる」の意味がありますから、この島嶼は遠くのLiancourt Rocksでしょう。
「欝陵之東島嶼相望」“visible to the east of Ulleung is an island” is generally right. 「望」 means to “see in the distance”. Therefore, I am sure the island visible to the far east of Ulleung is Liancourt Rocks.
「欝陵之東島嶼相望接于倭境」は「欝陵ノ東ニ島嶼ヲ相望ム、于（ここ）倭境ト接ス」と読めます。「欝陵島の遥か東に島が見えるが、その島（Liancourt Rocks）の先は倭である」と解釈します。
My Japanese English for 「欝陵之東島嶼相望接于倭境」 is as follows:
“To the far east of Ulleung we can see an island, which is adjacent to the border of Japan”.
The passage in 1714 is evidence that Koreans have recognized Liancourt Rocks as Korean territory.
