＿Regulations＿
The regulation of the drive fishery in Taiji started in 1982,
with the introduction of the license system by the
prefecture governments. The governor of Wakayama
Prefecture gave a license to a group of 15 vessels and set the
fishing season from 1 October to the end of April.
Autonomous catch limits of 500 southern form shortfinned
pilot whales and 5,000 other delphinids (not
specified by species) were determined by the fishermen. In
1986, the license was decreased from 15 vessels to the
current number of 14, i.e. the actual number of vessels that
had operated since the 1984/85 season. Since 1986, the
autonomous catch limits of 500 short-finned pilot whales
and 5,000 other dolphins became obligatory as a condition
of the license.

太地の追込み漁規制は1982年、県行政によるライセンス制度の
導入とともにはじまった。和歌山県政庁は15隻の船による１グループに
ライセンスを発行し、漁期を10月1日から4月末までとした。
漁師たちが自主的に500頭のコビレゴンドウ北方系と5000頭の
他のマイルカ科（鯨種非指定）という捕獲枠を設定した。
1986年にライセンスは15船舶から現行の14船舶に低減された。
これは1984/85シーズン以降実際に操業していた船数だった。
1986年以降、コビレゴンドウ500頭、その他のマイルカ科
5000頭という自主的捕獲枠はライセンスの義務的条件となった。
In 1991, the quota for the drive fishery was decreased to
a total of 2,900 delphinids, within which the take of a
maximum of 500 short-finned pilot whales was permitted.
The taking of killer whales by the fishery was prohibited
except that a maximum of five could be live-captured. The
quota for 1992 was set at a total of 2,500 delphinids, within
which a catch of up to 1,000 striped dolphins and 300 shortfinned
pilot whales was permitted.
1991年に追込み漁の捕獲枠はマイルカ科総数2,900頭に削減され、
この枠内で最高500頭のコビレゴンドウの捕獲が許可された。
シャチの捕獲は最大５頭の生け捕りを例外として禁止された。
1992年の捕獲枠はマイルカ科総数2,500頭、うちスジイルカ
最大1,000頭、コビレゴンドウ最大300頭が許可された。
Since 1991, a Fisheries Agency order has prohibited any
drive fishery (including those of other prefectures) from
taking any species of baleen whale, sperm whales, killer
whales, Cuvier's beaked whales, northern form shortfinned
pilot whales, Fraser's dolphins, harbour porpoises,
finless porpoises and narwhals.
1991年以降、水産庁は（他の都道府県も含めて）すべての
ヒゲクジラ類、マッコウクジラ、シャチ、アカボウクジラ、コビレ
ゴンドウ北方系、サラワクイルカ、ネズミイルカ、スナメリ、
イッカクの追込み漁による捕獲を禁止した。
