金田帰逸 and Tanba (1899) は能登沿岸、高倉村（＝真脇）のイルカ
追込み漁に言及しており、後に農商務省水産局はこの地域がイルカ漁で
有名であると述べて４つの村（真脇、小木村、宇出津、中居）を
挙げている。中居は長い湾の中にあるが、他はそうではない。
Kaneda and Tanba (1899) referred to dolphin driving at
Takakura-mura (= Mawaki) on the Noto coast and later
the Bureau of Fisheries (1911) stated that the area was

famous for its dolphin flshery and listed four operating
villages (Mawaki, Ogi-mura, Ushizu, Nakai). Nakai is
located in a long deep bay, but the others are not. During
the driving season (March to June), dolphin spotters
placed on hill tops searched for dolphins using telescopes,
whilst scouting boats surveyed nearby waters (Bureau of
Fisheries, 1911). Kaneda and Tanba (1899) stated that a
decline in catches began in the mid 1890s. The date of
closure of the fishery is unknown, but the last post-war
operation occurred long before 1969 (Kasuya,
unpublished). In 1982. drive fisheries were placed under
the control of prefecture governments by the Japanese
government; no villages in this area obtained licenses to
drive dolphins.
追い込みシーズン中（3−6月）には丘の上の見張り人が望遠鏡で
イルカを探し、探査船が近傍海域を捜索する（Bureau of
Fisheries, 1911）金田＆Tanba （1899）は1890年代の中頃に
捕獲数の低下がはじまったと述べている。
1982年に日本政府により、追込み漁が各県行政の管理下に
置かれることになった。この地域のどの集落もイルカ追い込みの
ライセンスを取得しなかった。
