●DEATHS BY SICKNESSより、農村調査の病死について述べた部分です。

病死を戦死と報告した事例は無視しうるほど少数であると結論付けています。

つまり、この時期は異常に乾燥した気候が続いていたと述べられています。確かに、言い換えればunusually mild and fair weatherでしょうけど、農業用水にも事欠く状態で戦場となった地域の衛生が保たれるものでしょうか? 直接戦場になっていなかったとしても、下水の整備されていない地域の事なのです。
異常な少雨によって疫病が発生し難かったというロジックには、不自然な感を禁じえません。
