以上 lay の自動詞としての用法です。 　

主語は殺された人ですから、その遺体は自分で転がった、というより、殺された、倒された、の意味で、単に自動詞 lie で受けるのは間違いだと思います。 　 マギーという宣教師は、native English 大丈夫ですかね。
私だったら、where the cadaver was abandoned, laid down (or lying down) on the floor と書きますがね。
