Independence
Your view is not without a point. However, would the Japanese government take the risk of holding a referendum concerning Okinawan (or Liu-jiu) independence at all? Of course it is nice to see democracy at work, however, does independence reallymean that much? Even Canada is now attempting to pass laws to pin down the prospects of Quebec independence. Canada is internationally recognized as one of the best democratic countries in the world, then why is the Canadian government doing somethingthat seems so "undemocratic"? It is because of national welfare and security. There is evidence that the U.S. is one strong supporter of Quebec independence. The Canadian government is not stupid. Even the Texas State of America wants to break away fromthe U.S. (there are a lot of Spanish speaking people there). If we go to solve everything by a vote, is it going to make the world better? I think that the most important thing is to guarantee a decent living for everyone, and that applies to China too.I admit that China is not perfect and there is much room for improvement. I'm a strong supporter of preserving the cultures and languages of the minorities. At present, the most important thing is to develop the economy and guarantee everyone a decentliving first.
