Continue...(part 2)
.....I understand this point and agree that it is national interest that made the apology to Korea possible. Recently, there seems to be warmer ties between Japan and Korea. On a personal level, I like this to happen because I don't want to seehatred between peoples of any countries. However, on a national level, the Chinese government sees this as a possible threat to Chinese security. How the Chinese government will react (or reacted?) to this..I don't know...but the Chinese governmentdefinitely sees US as the major force that drives the alliance between US, Japan, and Korea. Therefore, the Chinese government sees US as the major competitor in East Asia and possibly in the whole world. By this reason, Japan and Korea can be considered"checker-pieces" in US's global strategic plan.
Frankly speaking, "in international politics, there is no permanent friend and no permanent enemy but permanent national interests." When Japan becomes too powerful that it threatens the hegemony of US, it willside with China to counterbalance Japan's power; when China becomes or is becoming too powerful, the US will side with Japan. Of course, different ideologies, differernt political systems, different national interests all contribute to the considerationof siding with whom.
