The interesting thing about this that our reports indicate that
45 of those bodies were found on the west bank.
The American military and the Iraqi security forces for the last several
weeks have been trying an operation on the west bank of the Tigris
river in Baghdad to try to secure some of the troubled neighborhoods.
The generals tell me they've pushed that operation through most of
the troubled neighborhoods and yet we're still seeing lots of bodies
popping up in the last day or so on that side of the city !

米軍とイラク軍が作戦を行っているドーラ地区では、
それ以来、殺人率は低下しています。
しかし住民はイラクの警察に対しては警戒心を持ち、
米軍部隊にこの地域から撤退して欲しくないと言っています。

We do see some quiet returning to some of the neighborhoods
they've gone through.
Obviously the big question is that whether they can do this
throughout the entire city.

Like I said a lot of Iraqis fear the day
Americans leave their neighborhood
because right now they see the Americans as a neutral arbiter
between Sunni and Shiite militias.
多くのイラク人は米兵に自分の地域に残って欲しいと考えています。
現在は米兵は、スンニ派とシーア派の民兵の間の
中立の調停者だと考えているからです。
