A settlement of $18 million was reached last year in a suit in which the Palau Government and victims of the fall sued for about $100 million from the companies involved in the repairs of the bridge in 1996, which included Black Micro, VSL Pressing, Louis Berger, and others. VSL and its insurance company, Wintethur Swiss Insurance, which paid $10 million toward the settlement, have now filed a third-party complaint against companies which were involved in the first construction of the bridge, from 1975 to 1977.
