Korean Firm Develops Own Hybrid Car Battery


SK Corporation says it conducted a successful test-run of a hybrid car equipped with a battery the firm developed in the U.S., which is 10 percent more energy efficient than competing products in the market. It is the first time a big Korean corporation has proven the feasibility of its own battery for hybrid cars, a market dominated Japanese companies Panasonic and Sanyo. SK embarked on the project in 2004 and reaped success in March this year, the company said Tuesday. It carried out test-runs of hybrid cars with the battery at official driving courses in the U.S. for the last three months.
