In a joint statement at the end of the first visit by an Israeli premier to India, the two countries said "terrorism undermined the very foundation of freedom and democracy."

"Together with the international community and as victims of terrorism, Israel and India are partners in the battle against this scourge."

India's cooperation with Israel has grown quickly since the Hindu right took power in 1998 and also moved New Delhi closer to the United States. Indian Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee (news - web sites) agreed Wednesday to pay a return visit to Israel.
