以上の概観で、日本のイルカ追込み漁が歴史的時代より、いくつかの
温帯、熱帯性イルカを北緯39°30’以南のさまざまな海域で捕獲してきた
ことを示した。

このような漁が北方海域で行われなかったことの理由の一つは、日本
沿岸の冷水域には群棲イルカが生息しないということである。

以下では各系群ごとの現行漁法およびその他の漁法による捕獲史を
要約し、最後に格系群の資源状態について、入手しうる情報を概観する。

［DISCUSSION］

The above review has shown that drive fisheries for
dolphins have taken place in Japan since historical times on
several temperate and tropical delphinids in various waters
south of 39°30'N. One of the reasons that has inhibited
such operations in northern waters is the absence of
gregarious species in the colder waters off Japan. Below we
summarise the available information on the catch history of
stocks that have been taken by the existing drive fisheries
and some other fisheries, and finally we review the
available information on their status.
