さあ！諸君！捕鯨問題だ！

今回の裁判がどう報道されているかを見ているうちに妙なことに気が付きました。

まず、オーストラリアの報道。

Prosecutors told Tokyo District Court yesterday that chemical burns to the face of a 24-year-old whaler were "clearly caused by rancid butter fired by the defendant".

ニュージーランド人は、2月の乗船による逮捕以来拘留されてつづけていた。そして、日本の検察官は彼は第二昭南丸の乗組員に【腐ったバター】を投げたことによって、乗組員を負傷させたと主張している。検察官は、昨日、24年を経た捕鯨船の表面への化学火傷が「明らかに、被告によって投擲された【腐ったバター】に起因する」と、東京地方裁判所で語った。

"The impact of rancid butter and its toxic nature is clear from past studies, and our investigations found that the ship's floor was discoloured where the rancid butter hit.

24年を経た捕鯨船の表面への化学火傷は「明らかに、被告によって投擲された【腐ったバター】に起因する」と、検察官は言った。
「【腐ったバター】とその毒性の効果は過去の研究から明白であり、我々の調査では【腐ったバター】があたった場所で、船面が変色したことが判明した。」

どちらも酪酸という言葉は出ずに【腐ったバター（rancid butter）】と書いてある。こればかり読んでいれば「日本は腐ったバターぐらいで何騒いでいるんだ」と思うでしょう。そして、この腐ったバターと言っていたのはシーシェパード。彼らの言葉を確かめもせずに、相変わらずそのまま使っているわけです。

ちなみに論告では腐ったバターなどとは言っていない。

＞ガラス瓶は容量約３５０ミリリットルで、酪酸が詰まっており、総重量は約４５０グラムだった。酪酸は腐ったバターのような不快なにおいだけでなく、強い腐食性があり、皮膚への接触は、痛み、発赤、水疱、皮膚熱傷などを、目への接触は、痛み、発赤、重度の熱傷、視力喪失などを起こす、非常に危険な物質。

産経が丁寧に取材しているんだから、それをちゃんと辿れば「rancid butter」ではなく「butyric acid」となるはず。そういうところもいい加減なんだなぁ。
