わりに新しいサンケイのシーシェパード報道が引用されていたので採録です。

｜活動歴は古く、１９８０（昭和５５）年にはポルトガルのリスボン港で
｜捕鯨船に機雷を取り付け、爆破して沈没させる事件を引き起こしている。

これ読むと、普通の日本人なら普通に操業していたまともな捕鯨船を、
シーシェパードが沈没させたという印象を持つでしょうね。

とんでもない誤導です。
沈没させられた船は「海賊」捕鯨船として何年も前から悪名を馳せていた
シエラ号で、しかもポルトガルの乾渠で修理を終えたばかりの状態、
人が乗っていない夜中の出来事です。

日本企業とノルウェーの銀行が３：１の比率で所有していた「海賊」捕鯨船
シエラ号の問題については、ここでIWC年報、海洋哺乳類エンサイクロペディア、
国際法学者Patricia BIRNIEのIUCN論文等、信頼できる文献を引用してすでに
解明済みですが、日本のマスコミがしつこく誤導をやる以上、何回でも
事実関係を明示しなきゃいけないですね。

おととしのおわりに出版されたオーストラリアのジャーナリスト
の本から引用です。専門的論文よりはるかに読者の多い本ですから、
日本と英語圏の認識の差が顕著になるケースです。

事実関係について認識の食い違いがあれば、どちらか、あるいは
双方が被害者意識過剰になりますね。当然です。

当然ですが、過剰な被害者意識にもとづく過剰な主張は、下品で卑しい
姿かたちをとるのではないかな？

　 Since the days of Onassis in the 1950s, pirate whalers had scuttled
like crabs around the fringes of the whaling pool. There were catcher boats
refitted with stem ramps, converted factory trawlers, and coastal fishing
boats that could bolt a small harpoon gun to the bow. They hid in quiet
comers of the Atlantic and Pacific, some trading to local markets, most
freezing and shipping their whale meat to Japan. None was likely to obey any
IWC rule about size or species. Humane killing was not in their equipment.
　 Exposing them and their crevices of international business took
gumshoe investigation. A British wildlife advocate named Nick Carter
gave Watson his first target by lodging a report with the IWC in 1975 on
MV Sierra, a pirate so bad that its own crew turned on it. The Sierra was a
former 650-tonne Dutch whale chaser modified at the stem to drag aboard
and process whales. Carter found it operated from 1968, first as MV R..un
under Norwegian directors, exporting its best meat to Nissui in Tokyo and
second-grade products to Britain as pet food. Operation of the ship shifted
to South African-based Andrew Behr in 1972, a contract was signed with
Taiyo Canada to supply whale meat, and its plundering continued from the
port of Freetown, Sierra Leone.

オナシスというのはギリシャの船主で、故ケネディー大統領未亡人の２番目の
夫です。日本が「海賊」捕鯨に乗り出すずっと前に、南極海海賊捕鯨を手広く
やっていたので有名です。

関係ないけど、ギリシャとトルコはエーゲ海の小島嶼領有権、経済水域を巡って
争っていて、小規模な軍事的接触が絶えないそうですね。

だけど、今回のギリシャの経済危機を機会に無意味な出費をおさえるため、
双方過剰な軍事予算を削減しようということになったそうです（欧米報道各社）。
