There was no New Year’s festivities for the crew of the Steve Irwin. We departed from Hobart in Tasmania under a blue moon at 1800 Hours on December 31st. There is little time to waste.
We now have a full tank of fuel, provisions and most importantly we no longer have the Japanese security ship Shonan Maru #2 on our tail preventing us from finding the main body of the Japanese whaling fleet. The crew are lucky they did not have time to go to the pubs last night. A hangover would be a difficult thing to nurse in this gale we are now in.
