水産庁は6日、南極海における調査捕鯨を妨害する反捕鯨団体対策として、関係各国に対し、燃料補給のための寄港をさせないなどの協力を求めていくことを明らかにした。
ある外務省関係者は「彼らの海賊行為は極めて遺憾。われわれは今後も、関係各国に対し、彼らの暴力行為を阻止するための協力を求めていく」と語った。

Japan's foreign ministry has said it plans to ask Australia and possibly New Zealand and Chile to ban
an anti-whaling ship from using their ports to refuel.
日本外務省はオーストラリアと、場合によってはニュージーランド、チリに反捕鯨船がその港を燃料補給に
使用することを差し止める要請を計画していると語った。

Japan has accused the conservation group Sea Shepherd and the crew of its ship, the Steve Irwin,
of acting "like pirates" in their efforts to stop Japan's annual whale hunt in Antarctic waters.
日本は保護団体シーシェパードとその船スティーブ・アーウィンの乗員を「海賊行為類似」の行動で
日本の例年の南極海での捕鯨を阻止しようと試みていると批難した。

The announcement came after Japanese fisheries officials said the whaling fleet had temporarily suspended
their hunt following the death of a crewman.
この声明は日本の水産当局者が、現在船員の死亡により捕鯨船団が一時捕鯨を停止していると発表した後に
明らかにされた。

The sailor, who has not been named, apparently fell over board in high seas and his body has not been recovered,
despite an extensive search.
氏名が公表されていないこの船員は、明らかに甲板から公海へ落ちたもので、集中的捜索にもかかわらず
体はまだ発見されていない。

The incident was not believed to be related to activities of Sea Shepherd or any other protest group.
この事故はシーシェパードやその他抗議グループの活動とは関連が無いと考えられている。
