relations with neighbours
Although what I'm going to talk about does not have much to do with this topic, I'll still say a few things about it. Besides China, Japan's another neighbour is Korea. Korea was colonized by Japan during the beginning of this century. As a resultof Japanese colonization, Korean people dislike Japanese people a lot. Although Korea is very close to Japan, there exists great differences between the two countries. I think that if Japan is to ensure itself a more secure regional environment, itmust foster good relations with Korea first. From a geopolitical point of view, having 40 something million hostile people living next door is not very beneficial to Japan. Now, the greatest "bomb" between Japan and Korea is Dokdo or Takeshima. TheJapanese government has recently allowed the household registration on the island, implying that Japan has sovereignty over the island. To both Japan and Korea, abandoning sovereignty over the island is humiliating and equivalent to "selling out one's owncountry." If both sides don't work out some solution that is acceptable to both sides, relations between the two countries cannot improve. If we step back for a moment and look at the issue from a distance, could the Takeshima/Dokdo issue a "bomb"deliberately planted by the US?
Besides South Korea, North Korea is another country Japan has to deal with. How Japan handles its relations with Korea has great implications for the future.
