日中関係

I think that Japanese people are very proud of themselves.
私は日本人一人一人が誇りを持つ国民だと思う。

Indeed, they do have many things to be proud of.
実に誇りに思う多くのものを持っている。

They are now citizens of the world's2nd largest economic power;
彼らは、今や世界の第 2 の経済力を持つ市民である。

they live in an orderly and largely peaceful (< -- at least that's how I think) society;
彼らはもとまり平和な社会に住んでいる。

the society is almost ableto offer employment to virtually everyone.
社会は、ほとんどの人に雇用を提供することができる。

These are indeed great achievements of the Japanese.
これらは実に日本人の偉業である。

However, let me ask if this is the only right"criterion" Japanese people use to judge whether a country deserves their respect?
しかしながら、日本人は、（その偉業を）国がそれらの尊敬に値するかどうかを判断するための唯一正しい尺度（規範）としてはいないか？

他国から見た日本の評価と国民（個人）の評価がどのぐらいアンバランスであるかを不幸にして日本人は知らない。
国に対する誇りがあっても、個人の誇りをその国家の頼るようであれば、戦前の日本人と同じだと思う。
歴史は繰り返されてはならないと思います。
