1990's - 21 occasions.

In total, we have admitted and apologized for the invasion in at least 34 occasions until today.

[Issue of the Yasukuni Shrine visit]
Our understanding of the Yasukuni Shrine is that the Shrine is visited for the purpose of paying respects to those killed in action during the war and to remember the determination that war should never be waged again. That's why the vistis only take place on August 15 (VJ-Day) and not on August 8, the day the war begun.
