China and Japan.
After I came to this forum, I started to realize that in Japan there are actually many people who don't like China or Chinese. Now I am worried that behind the smiles of my Japanese friends, they in fact harbour dislike for me. I hope that this isnot the case.
Regarding the apology issue, it is true that every Chinese person believes that there must be an apology because of all the atrocities that the Japanese imperial army conducted. A lot of the people that the army killed were not evensoldiers. they were merely citizens or farmers. Some of them were even kids who were no older than a few years old. I don't understand why they must be sacrificed. Somebody tied the issue to the invasion of other western powers, for example, Britain. However,Britain did not go to the countryside or cities to massacre ordinary citizens. I am not saying that what the British did was acceptable, the point is that the motives (the British wanted to trade at first.) scales were totally different.
Also, afterthe Japanese army left China, there were a lot of Japanese orphans and women left behind. They had no food and were totally lost in a foreign land. Many Chinese families took care of them, even a minute ago the orphans and women's countrymen weresetting fire to their villages and killing their love ones. I really respect those who were brave enough to take care of the orphans and women. You know how much pressure they had and how they could have been easily stigmatized as traitors? However, allthey knew at that time is that the Japanese orphans and women were starving and that they must be rescued. I didn't know this until I found a few books on this topic in the library.
Anyway, it is important to know what had happened in the pastand develop respect for each other.
