「神の声」で開戦決断？ 　 米大統領、証言が波紋

　 【ロンドン８日共同】パレスチナ自治政府のシャース副首相が、１０日放映予定の英ＢＢＣのドキュメンタリー番組の中で、ブッシュ米大統領がアフガニスタン攻撃やイラク戦争開戦に踏み切った理由を「神のお告げがあったからと語っていた」などと発言していたことが分かり、国際的に波紋が広がっている。
　 マクレラン米大統領報道官は「そのような発言はなかった」と完全否定。シャース氏も７日、大統領の発言そのものを語ったわけではないと「軌道修正」に躍起だ。
　 ＢＢＣによると、番組の中でシャース氏は、２００３年に自治政府外相として出席したエジプト・シャルムエルシェイクでの米アラブ首脳会議の内容を証言。この際にブッシュ大統領が「アフガニスタンでテロリストと戦えと神に告げられ、そうした。イラクについても、神に圧政と戦えと告げられた」と語ったと述べた。

George Bush has claimed he was on a mission from God when he launched the invasions of Afghanistan and Iraq, according to a senior Palestinian politician in an interview to be broadcast by the BBC later this month.

Mr Bush revealed the extent of his religious fervour when he met a Palestinian delegation during the Israeli-Palestinian summit at the Egpytian resort of Sharm el-Sheikh, four months after the US-led invasion of Iraq in 2003.

One of the delegates, Nabil Shaath, who was Palestinian foreign minister at the time, said: "President Bush said to all of us: 'I am driven with a mission from God'. God would tell me, 'George go and fight these terrorists in Afghanistan'. And I did. And then God would tell me 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq'. And I did."

Mr Bush went on: "And now, again, I feel God's words coming to me, 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And, by God, I'm gonna do it."

Mr Bush, who became a born-again Christian at 40, is one of the most overtly religious leaders to occupy the White House, a fact which brings him much support in middle America.
