LeT, Jaish ultras re-grouping for major assault: BSF
KT NEWS SERVICE
SRINAGAR, Feb 18: Security agencies have received reports that Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohommad militants are regrouping themselves and preparing for a major assault in Kashmir valley.
Security force officers have directed the field commanders to crack whip against the militants in far flung areas and do not allow the ultras to regroup.
"We are currently having upper hand over ultras and situation is presently under control. But we are still keeping fingers crossed, because wireless intercepts have suggested that the ultras have been asked to step-up their activities in the valley", said a senior police officer.
Deputy Inspector General of Border Security Force R.S.Bhullar said, the militants have changed their strategy and they are now moving in small group comprising two to three persons.
"Earlier, they used to move in a group of five to ten persons. Now they have changed their strategy. They are moving in small groups and trying to evade encounter and minimize casualties", said Bhullar.
This, he said, might also be a plan to regroup themselves and carry out a major assault. "But we are maintaining constant pressure on them so that they are unable to regroup themselves", said Bhullar.
Reports suggest that militants have made bases in far flung areas of Rajwar forests, Lolaab valley in Kupwara district. Besides, large number of militants were also seen in Rafiabad and Bandipora belt in Baramulla district.
"These areas are mostly infested by foreign militants comprising Lashkar-e-Toiba, Jaish-e-Mohommad, Harkat-ul-Mujhadeen, Harkat-ul-Jehadi-Islami and Al-bader. We have directed the field commanders to eliminate the militants and destroy their bases so that they are not able to create any subversion and sabotage", said Bhullar.
Deputy Inspector General of BSF said, area domination by troops has been intensified so that more pressure is built on militants so that their plans are foiled.
Meanwhile, security forces have streamlined their intelligence network so that no ultra is able to create any sort of subversion in the area. A close watch is being kept on the people so that militants are unable to mix with the local populace in order to evade arrest.
