SRINAGAR, Feb 14: Hundreds of people today took to streets at Rawalpora after a handicapped person was done to death by unidentified gunmen.
Reports said, some unidentified gunmen entered into the house of Mohommad Maqbool Baba and asked the inmates for food. When the members were asking for preparations, gunmen asked Maqbool to follow them. He was taken in the compound and fired at close range. He died instantaneously.
When the news of his death spread in the area, people came on the streets and started protesting against the killing. They blamed pro-government militants for the death of Maqbool.
Complete bandh was observed in the area. Shops and other establishments were closed and traffic remained off the roads.
Deputy Commissioner Budgam also reached in the spot and assured the people that probe will be conducted and those responsible for the gruesome death will be punished.
Senior Hurriet leaders Syed Ali Shah Geelani and Mohommad Yasin Malik also visited the house of Maqbool and extended condolence to the family members.
Speaking on the occasion, Geelani urged the international human rights committee to take cognizance of the violations in Kashmir and pressurize India to put an end to the "genocide" of the Kashmir people.
Meanwhile, a police spokesman said, militants opened fire at Mohommad Maqbool Dar at Rawalpora causing him serious injuries. He was shifted to hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
