Israel dismantles settler homes

Soldiers have begun dismantling a Jewish settlement - the first occupied outpost to be tackled under the peace plan known as the roadmap.

Israeli army radio said troops and police moved in on Mitzpeh Yitzhar, near the Palestinian town of Nablus in the West Bank.

About 200 Jewish settlers protested by lying on the road and blocking it with rocks.

The operation was launched on the eve of a visit by US Secretary of State Colin Powell, who will try to promote the peace plan which is backed by Washington.


パウエル訪問に先駆けて、イスラエル軍が違法入植地を撤去。
前に撤去された入植地は無人だったため、ほとんど示威的なものでしたが、
今回は人が住んでいる場所。
より「実のある行動」と評価できる。
ハーレツによると抗議していた入植者200名前後のうち、
数名が逮捕されたらしい。

好ましい動きではあるけど、
もちろん盲目的パレスチナ支持派や、「そもそも主義者」は
「今回の入植地は入植地全体の○％でしかない！」
「当然の措置であって、36年前にやっておくべき！」とか
言うんだろうな〜（笑）

もちろんこれは
「先生」の来訪を前に、先週失った得点を回復しようという魂胆だろうけど、
もう一人の生徒が宿題を達成できず、落第への道を辿っていることを考えれば、
少しは評価してもいいんじゃない？
