Abu Mazen says truce with Hamas expected soon

Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas (Abu Mazen) told the newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth on Thursday that he expected to reach an agreement with Hamas by next week for a complete halt to attacks on Israelis.

A ceasefire deal with Hamas would be a major step forward on a U.S.-backed "road map" that Abu Mazen and Prime Minister Ariel Sharon will discuss with U.S. President George W. Bush in a three-way summit in Jordan on June 4.

"My assessment is that by next week I will arrive at a ceasefire agreement with Hamas," Abbas said.
