"She walked into the cafeteria and then I heard the explosion," Salma said. Since then she has been calling her friend's cellphone and the hospitals but hadn't been able to find her.

There is growing recognition that the violence has backfired on the Palestinians. Israeli policy must encourage the conclusion that it would be best to end terror and go back to political bargaining.
