It is actively involved in the post-war reconstruction in Afghanistan, and has sent troops for the first time into a combat zone in Iraq. Japan’s naval profile in the Arabian Sea has risen since the US ousted the Taliban regime at the end of 2001 and occupied Iraq in 2003.
