and getting worse, according to a poll,
with three in four respondents describing security as 'poor.'

The numbers reveal a population with little optimism about its economic
future. And 62 percent of respondents said Iraq is more politically
divided today than in the past.

The results were culled from 2,804 interviews by the Washington-based
International Republican Institute.

BAGHDAD, Apr 29 (AFP): Iraq lifted a two-day curfew in the restive city
of Baquba after fighting there eased while leaders in Baghdad prepared
for negotiations over the next government.

"Since this morning the curfew has been lifted and the city of Baquba
is crawling back to normalcy," a security source told AFP.
「今朝から外出禁止令は解除されバクバ市は正常に戻っています」

Insurgents had mounted coordinated attacks on checkpoints in and around
Baquba, the provincial cap of the Diyala province, since Thursday
in a bid to seize control of the city.
武装勢力が木曜日から市のコントロールを掌握するべく ディヤラ州の州都
バクバとその周辺のチェックポイントに対する攻撃を開始していました。

Baquba, a mixed Sunni-Shiite city northeast of Baghdad, has seen a surge
in violence since December's national election as rebels exploited
a protracted deadlock over the formation of Iraq's next government.
