BAGHDAD (Reuters) - U.S. and Iraqi forces have killed or captured 15,000 people over the past year in their fight against an insurgency ravaging Iraq the commander of U.S. forces in the country said Wednesday.

In the past month alone, they had seized around 60 leaders of the various Islamist and Baathist groups trying to drive the Americans from the war-torn country, General George Casey said.

先月だけで米軍は旧バース党やイスラム過激派の武装組織幹部を約６０名を拘束したとジョージ・ケイシー在イラク駐留米軍司令官が述べた。

Speaking on the deadliest day for U.S. troops since the invasion in 2003, Casey said the insurgency was limited to just four of Iraq's 18 provinces.

イラク戦争以来、在イラク駐留米軍司令官は武装組織の活動はイラクの１８県の内、４県に限られていたと発言した。

米軍の死者は１４００人程度、負傷者は（一人が何度も負傷して重複している場合あり）１万人（７２時間以内に復帰した軽症の兵士は約５０００人）。武装組織側の損害率が駐留米軍以上に高いことが伺える。
