イラクで日本人拘束

日本政府が今回イラクで拘束された市民活動か及びジャーナリストの本国帰還の際に掛かった費用を請求していることを知った米国人男性が、３日、在米日本大使館に抗議文と共に２０００ドル（約２２万円）の小切手を送付したそうですが、日本大使館側はこれを拒否したようです。

About that check. Please understand that the Embassy of Japan cannot accept your generous contribution on behalf of the hostages. It is simply not our Japanese way.

In Japan, we do not use checks. I would be happy to explain why, if you would kindly meet me at Yamato Ichiban restaurant on K Street in downtown Washington this Friday evening. You will see a man wearing mirrored sunglasses, a trench coat and a fedora. Please give the cash to him. He is my personal secretary.

Dinner will be courtesy of the Embassy. It is the least we can do. Once again, allow me to thank you for your interest in Japan.
