「黒死病と舞踏病」J. F. C. Hecker著[The Black Death and The Dancing Mania]

二人の女王、一人の司教、そして他の多数の識者がその「黒死病」の犠牲となった。Dieuホテルでは慈善の修道女の手厚い看護の下で、日に500人以上が亡くなり、この恐怖の時代に於いて、彼女等の高品位の勇気が人間の美徳の最も美しい特質を発揮した。というのも、明らかに感染から命を亡くし、死者数が何度も更新されたけれども、我が身を敬虔に彼らの召命に捧げる新任の候補者、異教徒の死の恐怖に対して初めて向き合う彼女等、に何ら不足する事がなかった。
Two queens, one bishop, and great numbers of other distinguished persons, fell a sacrifice to it, and more than 500 a day died in the Hotel Dieu, under the faithful care of the sisters of charity, whose disinterested courage, in this age of horror, displayed the most beautiful traits of human virtue. For although they lost their lives, evidently from contagion, and their numbers were several times renewed, there was still no want of fresh candidates, who, strangers to the unchristian fear of death, piously devoted themselves to their holy calling.

※著者の論では「黒死病」は巨大隕石がアジアのある場所に衝突し、巨大地震と地中の有害ガスを発生させたと述べている。酸素より重いその有害ガスが欧州へと流れていったらしい。
