Glorifying Nazi crimes a punishable offense

In the future anyone who openly approves, glorifies, or justifies the crimes committed by the Nazi regime can be sentenced to up to three years in prison. The section of the German Criminal Code that deals with incitement to hatred and acts of violence against minorities has been amended for this purpose.

A person can be said to be guilty of openly approving the human rights violations committed under the Nazi regime if and when that person expresses positive judgements with regard to the leaders responsible for those crimes, thus implying his or her approval of them. A person may be considered guilty of openly glorifying Nazism if and when that person praises or calls particular attention to a leading figure or office holder of the Nazi regime.
