ATHENS, Greece - The European Union expressed its deep satisfaction Friday at the appointment by Yasser Arafat of Mahmoud Abbas as the new Palestinian prime minister.
欧州連合は、新しいパレスチナ首相としてマームド・アッバスをアラファト議長が約束を守って選んだことに、金曜日、その深い満足を表明した。
Abbas has a strong political following and is known as a moderate. He has publicly called the violent Palestinian uprising a mistake and urges a return to peace negotiations with Israel.
