COLLEGE STATION, Texas (Reuters) - Chinese President Jiang Zemin offered to step up cooperation with the United States to prevent the spread of weapons of mass destruction and to fight terrorism in a speech on Thursday at the library of former President George H.W. Bush.
中国の江沢民主席は、米国が推し進める大量破壊兵器の拡散防止やテロへの戦いに、前ブッシュ大統領図書館で木曜日、会見の中で更なる協力を申し出た。
Jiang, speaking to an audience at the Bush library on the pastoral campus of Texas A&M University, said China and the United States were "victims of terrorism" and that the two giants had stood together to carry out "effective cooperation."
テキサスA&M大学の主キャンパスにあるブッシュ図書館で聴衆への話として江主席は、中国と米国は「テロリズムの犠牲者」であり、２つの大国は「効果的協力」をするために一緒の立場にある、と述べた。
Beijing has backed the U.S.-led war on terrorism while calling for support for its own campaign against separatists from the ethnic Uighur minority in the northwest region of Xinjiang. Washington has placed the separatist group, the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, on its list of terrorist organisations.
北西の新疆ウィグル自治区の、少数である分離独立主義者に対し、反対キャンペーンへの支持を呼びかけているとき、中国はテロリズムに関して米国主導の戦いを支持した。 アメリカ政府は、分離主義者グループとして、東トリキスタン・イスラム戦線をテロ組織のリストに加えた。
"China will continue to step up its consultation and cooperation with the U.S. on counterterrorism and join the rest of the world in the concerted fight against this common scourge," Jiang said.
「中国は反テロリズムに関して、米国と共にその相談し、更なる協力を続け、そして、この共通の災難に対して、気遣う戦いに最後まで加わるであろう」と、江沢民主席は述べた。
"Confucius said more than 2,000 years ago, 'In human relationships, a gentleman seeks harmony but not uniformity,'" he said. "That is to say, harmony but not sameness, reserving differences without coming into conflict."
「孔子は 2,000 年以上前に曰く、『人間関係において、紳士たるもの均一ではない調和を求めるもの』」と述べた。 「すなわち、調和とは同じでなく、対立せずに差異を留保することである」と。
