外国から見た訪韓

今回の小泉首相の訪韓について、AFP通信が各新聞社の論評を報じております。
この手の外国から見た見識は、そうめったにお目にかかることがないので、どうまとめるか大変興味あるところ。
AFP通信の報道では、朝日の論評を中前に書いてあるので、起承転結からすると「批判はするが、方法を持たない朝日」のイメージが定着というところか。 朝日さん、頑張ってね :-)

日本の報道機関、日韓関係改善に期待する

Japanese newspapers expressed their hopes for improved bilateral ties between Japan and South Korea Tuesday after the first summit between Japanese Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and South Korean President Kim Dae Jung held the previous day.
日本の新聞は、小泉首相と金大中大統領が前日開いた最初の会談の後の火曜日、日韓の関係改善の希望を報道した。
"With the first visit to South Korea by Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi, the soured ties between Japan and South Korea have finally started to move toward being restored," the Nihon Keizai Shimbun business daily said in its editorial.
日本経済新聞は社説で、「最初の小泉首相の訪韓により、日韓のギクシャクした関係が最終的に回復する方へ進み始めた」と述べた。
"The relationship cannot be called fully restored yet. But we want to welcome the reopening of the dialogue between the heads of the two nations, which had ceased for a while," the paper said.
また、その関係はまだ十分に回復したとはいえないが、しばらく途絶えていた両国首脳の対話再開を歓迎したい、と述べた。
The liberal daily recalled however that it was Koizumi's visit to the war shrine and the row over the history textbooks that resulted in South Korea's mistrust toward Japan.
リベラル紙は、小泉首相の訪問は靖国神社参拝や歴史教科書に韓国が信頼を欠いたことへの回復である、と伝えた。
"Actions that lacked consideration for neighbouring countries have damaged their trust in Japan, which eventually resulted in damaging Japan's national interests," the Asahi said.
朝日新聞は「近隣諸国への配慮を欠いた行動は日本の国益を損ねたことになった」と述べた。
With many South Koreans demonstrating against Koizumi's visit, the hostile reception "must have taught the prime minister the high price of mistrust," the paper said.
小泉首相の訪問に対して多くの韓国人デモからも、「訪韓にどれほど不信をいだいているか首相に思い知らせた」に違いない、と朝日は述べた。
But the right of centre Yomiuri Shimbun, the nation's biggest circulation newspaper, dismissed the protest by opposition lawmakers "emotional" and "extremely bizarre."
しかし、右系の国内最大発行部数の読売新聞は、「感情的な」そして「極端に奇怪な」反対議員による抗議、と片付けた。
Regardless of the feeling between the two nations, Japan and South Korea face a wide variety of issues that affect both nations, the Yomiuri said.
二国間の国民感情に惑わされず、日本と韓国に影響を及ぼす重要課題に取り組むべきである、と読売新聞は述べた。
"In view of the importance of cooperation between Tokyo and Seoul, it is only natural to strive to improve the bilateral relationship," Yomiuri said.
日本と韓国間の協力の重要性を考慮すると、双方の関係を向上させるために努力することは当然である、と読売新聞は述べた。
Another leading daily, the Mainichi Shimbun, shared the Yomiuri's view and added that it hoped South Korea would do its part to be forward looking.
その他有力紙である毎日新聞も、読売新聞と見解を共有し、前向きに韓国が役割を果たすことを望む、と付け加えた。
