Miss. seafood operator files oil spill lawsuit

The owner of a Mississippi seafood company filed a federal class-action lawsuit Friday over the rig explosion that caused a massive oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

The suit by Jerry Forte, owner of Jerry Forte Seafood in Pass Christian, claims the spill could damage the commercial seafood industry.

Forte's attorneys filed the suit in U.S. District Court in Gulfport.

The suit seeks at least $5 million in compensatory damages, plus an unspecified amount of punitive damages against Transocean, BP, Halliburton Energy Services Inc. and Cameron International Corp. and Hyundai Heavy Industries Co.

Shrimpers have filed similar lawsuits in federal courts in Louisiana and Alabama

メキシコ湾石油掘削施設爆発事故 　 米・オバマ大統領、重油流出の対応に全力挙げる姿勢

アメリカ南部のメキシコ湾で先週、石油掘削施設が爆発した事故で、重油の流出が拡大し、オバマ大統領は29日、軍の投入を含め、対応に全力を挙げる姿勢を示した。
オバマ大統領は「国防総省を動員し、全力を尽くして事態の収拾にあたる」と述べた。
この事故は20日、南部ルイジアナ州沖のメキシコ湾で、大手石油会社「BP」の石油掘削施設が爆発・炎上し、作業員11人が行方不明のまま水没したもの。
油田から流出した原油の量は、当初の予測の5倍となる1日5,000バレルに達することが判明し、29日には、原油がメキシコ湾に流れるミシシッピ川の河口に到達したことが確認された。
ミシシッピ川河口のデルタ地帯は、希少な野生生物の宝庫で、州当局は、環境に深刻な影響が及ぶとして、非常事態を宣言し、オバマ大統領も軍の投入の可能性も含め、対応に全力を挙げる方針。
