The ages of the girls that were taken to the comfort houses ranged from 15 to 19. A minority were not older than 11, and some were married women with children. They were always taken under heavy guard in army trucks, trains, ship and bus. Just before arriving at their destination, or just after, the women were raped, and what's more, were stripped of their virginity in an animalistic way. Thinking their virginity to be more precious than life, a lot of the women contemplated death. Being in a far and strange country with constant and heavy guard, these women lived in fear and desperation. Receiving tens of soldiers a day, at day's end, they were sore and bloated to the point of not being able to unfold their legs. In the case of being infected with a sexually transmitted disease, the women were injected with what they called injection number 606. If injected enough times, it became impossible to become pregnant.

Comfort women were also beaten and tortured regularly by Japanese soldiers. A motion filed by former comfort women in 2001 cited Japanese military records and described the following brutality:

"One Korean comfort woman asked why women in her comfort station were being forced to service up to forty men a day. She was ordered by a Japanese commander to be beaten with a sword while other comfort women watched. Thereafter, the resister was stripped, tied at the arms and legs, and rolled over a board covered in nails "until the nails were covered with blood and pieces of her flesh." She was then decapitated. One Japanese officer told the onlookers that "it's easy to kill you all, easier than killing dogs" and suggested that the flesh of the dead girl would be boiled and the survivors forced to eat it." 。。。。
