Russia At Tsushima

May 28 -- Admiral Rojestvensky's fleet, Russia's last hope in the naval war with Japan, has been destroyed in the Strait of Tsushima, according to official reports.

The Japanese claim to have sunken 12 warships, including the battleships Orel and Borodino as well as two transports and two cruisers.

Admiral Togo pursued the enemy through a dese fog. When it lifted, he attacked with torpedoes and shellfire. The Russians, apparently surprised, were very slow to reply and lost heavily in the battle's opening engagement.

Japanese fire concentrated on the Russian battleships. The Russian ships which were not sunken are now in flight to neutral ports in China.

The defeat practically eliminates all hopes of further Russian naval intervention in the Far East and raises doubt about Russia's future military capacity.
