自由主義と民主主義はかなり対立概念だよ。だから、意図的に自由を省いた.

めんどくさいから、簡単に言うと、自由主義とは国家からの自由(英語でいえばさしずめ、libertyだろうな）、民主主義は国家への自由(freedom).

国家への自由を求めて意見をまとめると、国家からの自由が束縛される結果にもなる。元々矛盾概念なんだよ。

ミルはfreedomという言葉も使っているな。

＞If all mankind minus one, were of one
opinion, and only one person were of the contrary opinion, mankind
would be no more justified in silencing that one person, than he, if
he had the power, would be justified in silencing mankind.''

ここんとこは、Chapter II Of the Liberty of Thought and Discussion からの引用だな。

その続きを書くと、
Were an opinion a personal possession of no value except to the power: if to be obstructed in the enjoyment of it were simply a private injury, it would make some difference whether the injury wasinflicted only on a few persons or on many. But the peculiar evil of silencing the expression of an opinion is that it is robbing the human race;・・・・・・・・・・・
