中国銀聯は２００２年に中国人民銀行が中心になって設立した。中国元の口座をつくっている銀行は全行強制的に加盟させられており、中国ではキャッシュカードには銀聯マークがついている。
銀聯カードならば、少なくとも北京、上海、広州、杭州及び深センの各市では、銀聯マークの入っているATMから現金を引き出し可能。（英語ページの説明では以上の５都市だが、中国語ページの説明だと２０都市で使えるようにも読める。ただし、他都市の他銀行のATMでの利用可能かどうかは？）（一部ではあるが日本の銀行のキャッシュカードやクレジットカードのですら銀聯マークの入っているATMから現金引き出し可能なのだから、いわんや中国の銀行のカードにおいてもやである。）

また、銀聯マークの入っているＰＯＳ端末での買い物利用にも使える。
（今年に入って利用可能なＰＯＳ端末が日本でも導入されている。）

ただし、ＡＴＭで一日５千元（８万円弱）までの引き出し制限があるという。（以前の情報なので現在とは違うかもしれない。）（ＰＯＳ端末での買い物利用では制限は緩いという。）

Usage：Since Jan 10th, 2002, cardholders can withdraw cash and make inquiry at ATM with UnionPay logo and use cards at POS with UnionPay logo at various stores, hotels, airports and other sites in the five cities, i.e. Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Hangzhou and Shenzhen, where CUP cards were initially issued. Bankcard interoperability had been realized in 300 cities at prefecture level and above by the end of 2003.

Pricing（手数料）：Withdrawal at ATM: in case a cardholder withdraws cash at an ATM in the same city where he/she gets the card, the issuer will determine whether a handling fee shall be collected. If the issuer levies on transactions of this kind, a sum of no more than RMB 2 could be charged; in case the cardholder withdraws in other cities, a fee must be collected with the following limits: RMB 2 + on-us inter-region withdrawal-processing fee of the issuer.
