◇Peres announces fund for Gaza Palestinians

Some 100,000 Palestinian families in the Gaza Strip will receive $100 a month from a fund aimed at helping Palestinian families in distress, Vice Premier Shimon Peres said yesterday, adding that the disbursements began today. The Indian ambassador to Israel said his country would contribute $15 million to the fund. He said Israel has helped the Palestinians raise funds from Arab countries and other international donors. During a meeting with Palestinian Finance Minister Salam Fayad yesterday, Peres said the greenhouses in Gaza Strip settlements should not be demolished, because they could allow tens of thousands of Palestinian families to earn a living.
