West Bank security chief Jibril Rajoub refused Friday to be appointed as governor of Jenin after announcing he accepted the decision to dismiss him from his role as head of preventive security. Rajoub was presented with his dismissal papers on Friday morning, Israel Radio reported.

The governor of the West Bank city of Jenin, Zuhair Manasreh, will assume the role left empty by Rajoub.

Manasreh said Thursday that Palestinian Authority Chairman Yasser Arafat had personally asked him to replace Rajoub as the West Bank security chief.
