Indonesia did not receive any formal objections from Japan after the government rejected a Japanese whaling vessel’s
request to dock for repairs at a shipyard in Surabaya, East Java Province, the Foreign Ministry said on Friday.
金曜日に（インドネシア）外務省は、日本の捕鯨船が東ジャワ地方、スラバヤの造船所へ修理のために入渠
したいとの要請を（インドネシア）政府が拒否したことについて、日本から正式の異議、異論は受け取って
いないと発表した。

“I can’t comment on the details, but our position on the conservation of endangered species, including whales, is clear,”
said Teuku Faizasyah, a spokesman for the Foreign Ministry.
外務省のTeuku Faizasyah報道官は、「私は細部についてコメントすることはできないが、鯨を含む危険に
さらされた種の保全に関するわれわれの立場ははっきりしている」と語った。

The Yushin Maru 2, a registered Japanese harpoon whaling ship, was forced to leave Indonesian waters this week
after failing to get approval from Indonesian authorities to dock at the state-owned PT PAL shipyard to repair a
damaged propeller.
日本船籍の捕鯨船第２勇新丸は、国有造船会社PT PALで破損したスクリューを修理するために必要な許可を
インドネシア当局から受けることができず、今週インドネシア領海を去ることを強制された。

The Japanese Consulate General in Surabaya had guaranteed the vessel would not illegally fish in Indonesian waters.
スラバヤの日本総領事は、この船がインドネシア領海で違法操業することはないと保証した。

Sumarto Suharno, head of the East Java Natural Resources Conservation Office, or KSDA, asked that the vessel be
ordered to leave because the ship was used to hunt an endangered species.
東ジャワ自然資源保全局（KSDA）スマルト・スハルト局長は、船の退去命令を要請したが、その理由はこの
船が危惧種の捕獲に利用されたからであるとしている。

He also said that the whaling vessel had been denied entry for repairs and refueling by the Western Australia state
government and that the Australian authorities had asked Indonesia to take similar action.

ラリア当局がインドネシアにも同様の行動をとるよう要請したことを語っていた。

However, Indonesia is a committed protector of whales, said Faizasyah.

“We don’t need advice from other governments to decide how we should respond,” Faizasyah said.

He said the Indonesian government was actively protecting Indonesia’s whale population.
