捕鯨は日本の恥

The year is almost over, but the battle to end the killing of whales in the Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary is just beginning.

Last week, we found the whalers 1,000 miles north of the sanctuary before they were able to kill a single whale. Three days ago, our ship the Brigitte Bardot was badly damaged by a rogue wave and is currently being escorted back to port by the Steve Irwin. Our entire international crew of 88 volunteers is safe and the Bob Barker continues to pursue the Japanese whaling fleet east. No whales have been killed as yet.

On another front, Erwin Vermuelen, one of our Cove Guardians and a Dutch citizen, remains in a Japanese prison awaiting trial. Two weeks ago, Erwin was arrested in Taiji while attempting to take photos of dolphins being transferred between holding pens. He is being charged with assaulting a fisherman, even though there were no eye witnesses.
